I'm upgrading my Garmin GTX320 mode C transponder to a Funkwerk TRT800A mode S unit.
Question: Is there anyone out there able to undertake this job (paid) for me or is it an easy "swap" over. Any advice would be welcome OR if there is a "sparky" who would be willing to undertake this upgrade (I'll be tea boy and tool passer) please let me know.
Hi Ade Have you already got the Funkwerk or just intending to buy one? The reason I ask is that the Trig TT21 & 22 are good units and very easy to fit being a 2 piece unit. The head only needs a 2-1/4" hole in the panel and being small and light can be squeezed in almost anywhere. The main unit simply clips to a tray that is surface mounted using 3 screws. Once mounted interconnect to the head using a cable with plugs on each end then connect main unit to the antenna job done. I fitted a TT21 to G-TYGR about three years ago and have been very pleased with it. You may want to consider one of these as an alternative. I have the punch and jig to knock out the panel and locate the fixing holes. I'll be going up to the airfield and fitting my new Funkwerk ATR833 transceiver tomorrow. Mike
I've already got the Funkwerk and it should just slide in to the tray vacated by the Garmin. There do seem to be a few "spare " wires other than the + & - and antenna and was wondering, should I leave these heat shrunk and not connected to anything. The install manual isn't overly clear for a Luddite like me. When it comes to the mechanical side I'm fine; electronics is a not my forte. Ade
